Tom Tillar, vice president for alumni relations, announces five new staff appointments. Several of these appointments support and enhance various academic college alumni programs. John King recently joined the staff as assistant director of alumni relations for the Pamplin College of Business. Linda Stroh was appointed director of alumni relations for the College of Engineering and also will assist with donor stewardship activities. Kellie Trail was named assistant director of alumni relations for the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences. Each of these three college liaisons will develop and expand alumni involvement through various special events and programs, and strive to increase awareness of alumni opportunities among their respective college graduate and undergraduate students.

Claire Childress was appointed assistant director of alumni relations and career services for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, where she will provide leadership for the career and job placement activities in the college and strengthen relationships with alumni. Jen MacDonald has joined the staff as alumni and student programs coordinator, responsible for advising the Class Officer System and the Student Alumni Associates. MacDonald previously staffed the Virginia Tech Union in the department of Student Activities.


2004 Alumni Association Scholars

The Alumni Association Presidential Scholarship endowment awarded scholarships totaling approximately $117,000 to 34 freshmen enrolling in the Honors Program this fall. In addition, 53 alumni chapters throughout the nation awarded 142 merit-based scholarships totaling $145,000 for the fall. Both programs encourage talented high school students to choose Virginia Tech over other universities.
